Are online inductions here to stay?

5 reasons why online induction may become the ‘new normal’- Reason Number five may surprise you!

Online induction trend

Online inductions have become more and more common since the start of the covid pandemic. With the ability to induct people 24 hours a day, are online induction like many things ‘’The new normal’’ or are they just a phase?

Contractors never arrive on time

As organised as we can try to get, there are always contractors who either do not arrive on time or cannot arrive on time. Online inductions solve this problem and reduce lost time for both the Principal and Sub-contractor.

Save time on repetitive tasks

The average construction site spends on average one hour per day inducting new contractors, which equates to 20 hours a month or 255 hours during the course of a year! This freed up time in the day could then be used for other tasks in hand.

Can you afford a ‘Pingdemic’ on site?

Induction rooms are very often small site cabins that may not be suitable for social distancing on some days, hence removing the need to have so many people in one room will reduce the likely hood of a pingdemic occurring on your site.

Make sure everyone is listening

Some contractors may have to complete several inductions each month in order to access various projects, so the information you present will need to stand out to ensure it has been understood. Online inductions solve this in many ways, not least by capturing the audience’s attention, but by presenting video inductions & adding multiple choice questions after each section to test understanding.

Adapt to the changing demographic

In 2019, there were over 14.28 million baby boomers in the United Kingdom, making it the largest generational cohort at that time and with the millennial generation a close second at 14.22 million people. Generation X are the third-largest generation here at 13.96 million people, with their parent’s generation, the Silent Generation numbering around 5.8 million people. This changing demographic are used to doing things differently and adapting the use of technology early on can make the transition smooth & enhance your companies image.

As for baby baby boomers who were not comfortable with using phones or laptops, Covid has addressed this by forcing the majority of the work force to scan bar codes or conduct virtual meetings which are the exact ‘skills’ needed for online inductions.
